Greatly appreciates, again, the generous donations from Mrs. Helen Hartman, Sarah’s mother, Dave Hillman, Iowa, and the contributors to the silent auction last year. This fund supports paddlers who have successfully completed paddlesport instructor certification. Please see details on our website about qualifying for financial support from the Sarah Hartman Fund:

About 45 people attended the April 30 Memorial Tree Planting event, organized by Andy Cocallas and the Chicago Whitewater Association, to memorialize three wonderful paddlers. Two white crab apple trees were planted for Dan Leigh and Joe Tybor, and a white oak for Sarah Hartman, along the bank of the Fox River at the Marge Cline Whitewater Park in Yorkville.
The paddling community mourns the loss of these wonderful people and paddlers, as did the weather god who shed many raindrops as well. Friends and relatives recited poems, shared a sip of wine and Sarah’s favorite cupcakes. Plans are for a walkway, bench, and plaques by the trees.
To promote the long-term viability of the program, we are running an Online Silent Auction. All auction proceeds support the Sarah Hartman Fund for paddlesports education. The Sarah Hartman fund has been established to provide support for individuals in the Midwest states of IL, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin who are certifying as ACA Level 3 (and above) instructors, ACA Instructor Trainers, or the appropriate BCU level Coach by providing a onetime grant to help offset some of the costs of certification.
